MELAKA, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- The remains of Mohamad Faizal Hassan, a Form Three student of Sultan Muhammad Religious Secondary School, who is believed to have drowned on the eve of Merdeka Day, was found near the Pulau Melaka Bridge in Bandar Hilir here today. State Public Order and Traffic Chief Supt Onn Ahmad said the body of the 15-year-old boy was found about 100 metres away from where he fell off. Faizal, who is from Taman Indah, Padang Jambu, is believed to have slipped and fell off from the RM10 million bridge between 1.30am and 2am when he and four friends gathered at the bridge along with other Merdeka Day revellers to usher in the country's 45th National Day celebrations. The area around the 300-metre bridge is a popular spot for youths to gather for fishing. Onn said the search and rescue operation started yesterday with more than 30 firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department, scuba divers from the Sungai Udang Army Camp, Civil Defence Department personnel and local fishermen scouring an area covering more than five kilometres. Faizal's father, Hassan Dros, 43, said his son was the only child whom he described as good and loveable.
